EU compliments the Foundation on its competence and commitment
The work of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Malaysia gains high recognition in the European Union’s new report on its projects of racism, xenophobia and discrimination. The Foundation’s project assists the minority community of Tamil by setting up information and counseling Centres to facilitate empowerment and strengthen social support structure.
In its evaluation of the EU budget line “fight against racism, xenophobia and discrimination”, the European Commission recognizes the strong management capacity of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. In the Malaysian project, the report specifically acknowledges the experience, the commitment and competence of the project team.
The project of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation has established Community Centers in support of the Tamil minority. In addition, the report commends the efforts of the project to change discriminatory laws and government policies by organising seminars, campaigns and other awareness activities.
The European Union approved 25 projects within this budget line. Out of these, only seven projects outside Europe had to share a financial amount of less than 4 million Euros. The Friedrich Naumann Foundation received a grant of one million Euro for its Malaysian project.
