Congratulations to Ms. Indrani Thuraisingham

Ms. Indrani Thuraisingham, Secretary General of ERA Consumer and Deputy Secretary General of FOMCA, the national consumer organisation body in Malaysia , was recently awarded the National Consumer Awards for the year 2004 by YAB Datuk Seri Abdullah bin Ahmad Badawi, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. In addition, she was also awarded the State Consumer Award 2004 from the Chief Minister of Selangor, YAB Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamad Khir Bin Toyo.

Ms. Indrani has been working in the field of consumer rights and protection for more than 10 years and is involved in Consumer Advocacy both within Malaysia , the region, and also at the global level. She represents FOMCA as the Executive Board Member of Consumers International to voice the concerns and represent Malaysian consumers at the global arena. She is also involved in the advocacy for food security policies and issues through her role as Executive Director of the Southeast Asian Council for Food Security and Fair Trade.

The awards were given to recognise Ms. Indrani's long standing work and efforts in the field of consumer advocacy. The recognition is well deserved and we would like to congratulate Ms. Indrani on her latest achievements. We at Friedrich Naumann Foundation have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Indrani for a long time, and have benefited a great deal from her tireless effort and commitments.
