Community Driven Change: empowering citizens to create change
Aiming to reach out to the grassroots to find solution to some community issues, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in partnership with Balairakyat invited the President of Resident Association in USJ5 to discuss with concerned citizens in a forum on Community Driven Change.

EU compliments the Foundation on its competence and commitment
The work of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Malaysia gains high recognition in the European Union’s new report on its projects of racism, xenophobia and discrimination. The Foundation’s project assists the minority community of Tamil by setting up information and counseling Centres to facilitate empowerment and strengthen social support structure.

The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER), together with Friedrich Naumann Foundation and ERA Consumer Malaysia, organised the seminar as part of the European Union funded project on empowerment.

Celebrating and Sustaining achievements
On June 20th, 2005 Friedrich Naumann Foundation with ERA Consumer Malaysia and the European Commission Delegation to Malaysia hosted a dinner for representatives from the EU member states, the Malaysian government, corporations, media and volunteers involved with the project Community Centres for the Empowerment of Indian Women in Malaysia.

It is a voluntary union between a man and a woman for life to the exclusion of all others. It is a ceremony, which allows a man and a woman to legally cohabit and have children.

Suicide and its Impact on Society: A Malaysian Blueprint for Prevention
YB Lee Kah Choon, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Ministry and H.E. Ambassador Thierry Rommel, Head of the European Commission Delegation to Malaysia officiated the opening of the Seminar Suicide and its Impact on Society: A Malaysian Blueprint for Prevention on the 31st of March 2005 in Kuala Lumpur.

Legal workshop on “Indian Women in Community and Family Development”
On 30 April 2005 ERA Consumer and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation held the fifth workshop this year on legal rights of Indian women in community and family affairs. Dato’ T. Rajagopalu and Dato’ Norhayati Bt. Omar, both State Executive Councillors of Negeri Sembilan assured 100 mostly female Indian participants of their support for the Community Centre in Rasah Jaya / Seremban.

Launch of 2 new Centres
February 2005 marked another milestone in the achievement of the project Community Centres for the Empowerment of Indian Women in Malaysia. The final two of the 10 Centres were opened in Sitiawan and Sungai Petani in northern Malaysia.
