Empower Indian Seminar
Friedrich Naumann Foundation together with ERA Consumer Malaysia brought together leaders and the community of Indian minorities in Malaysia for a participative consultation. The main objective of organizing this consultation was to create a platform for members of the Indian Community in Malaysia to discuss and form partnerships that will enhance the position of the Malaysian Indian.
Skill Training at Ampang Community Centre
A skill workshop on making tissue boxes was conducted by Ampang Community Centre for groups of women in the community. Similar such income-generating skills are taught to Indian women in various communities where 10 Community Centres being run by ERA Consumer Malaysia and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation are located.
Public Consultation on Violence Against Women October 2004
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation together with ERA Consumer Malaysia organised a seminar on Violence against Women on 11 October 2004 , under the EU-funded ‘ Community Centres for the Empowerment of Indian women in Malaysia ' project. The consultation was officiated by Datuk G. Palanivel, Deputy Minister for Women, Family and Community Development. There were a total of 135 participants from government sector, local and international NGOs.
Community Centre Staff Training
During the first week of August 2004, FNF conducted an Initial Staff Training session in Kuala Lumpur for the staff of five new Community Centres in Taiping, Buntong of Ipoh, Semenyih, Rawang and Rasah Jaya in Seramban.
Community Consultations and Setting up of Community Centres
Over the months of June and July 2004 ERA Consumer and FNF conducted community consultations in various sub-urban areas of Malaysia , in order to identify locations to set up Community Centres under the Women Empowerment project, which is co-funded by the European Union and the FNF

The title of this workshop may sound like one of common knowledge, but to many Indian Malaysian women the concept is totally alien.
Community Centres Activities Planned
In June 2003, the FNF and ERA Consumer announce the activities planned for the Community Centres in Malaysia. These range from developing awareness programmes to assisting in employment opportunities.
Community Centre Strategy Set
The FNF Malaysia desk and ERA Consumer outline a strategy to develop the first Community Centres in Malaysia by mid-2003. Activities here involved: defining terms of reference for a survey on the pontential areas, short listing psychological and legal counselors, and purchasing of infrastructure.
FNF and ERA Consumer work on the Community Centres
Through September and October 2003, the FNF and ERA Conser held a series of meetings and consultation session on the Community Centres for the Empowerment of Indian Women in Malaysia. The sessions reveived good attendance and planned to launch subsequent Community Centres across the countries. The sessions themselves included ways to strengthen the self-help capacities of the Indian Community and ways to improve legistature on women's rights in Malaysia.
