Forum Politisi: an innovative approach to political reforms in Indonesia
The Forum Komunikasi Partai Politik dan Politisi untuk Reformasi (in English: Communication Forum for Party and Parliamentary Reform) also known as Forum Politisi (www.forum-politisi.org), is a broad-based discussion and dialogue forum consisting of members of the national parliament (DPR) and party functionaries from several of the largest and most important Indonesian parties.
Main objective of the Forum is to initiate and encourage a public discourse on the improvements of the national parliament and political parties. The Forum’s goal is to develop and promote a comprehensive reform agenda for these two core institutions of democracy. The Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), with financial support from the German Foreign Ministry, helped to establish the Forum and provided technical assistance.
On the Forum’s website important technical documents (statutes, rules of procedure, constitutions, party platforms, etc.) as well as articles and opinions can be found. In March 2006 the Forum published its first blueprint for political reforms of parliament and political parties. The publication presents concrete steps and provides examples for direct action. The Forum maintains a regular dialogue programme and supports local initiatives which are interested in institutional reforms.
