The Failure of Development Aid

This first article makes a rather interesting point. We are all quite familiar with development aid from industrialized countries to developing countries and the belief that such assistance will, in the end, provide the opportunity for developing markets to modernize themselves so that they can participate effectively in the global trading system. Each and every year, we see and hear news of how development aid from, for example Denmark to Thailand or from Germany to Sri Lanka, in whatever form, plays a substantial role in diplomatic relations as well as the enhancement of infrastructure development for the recipient country. But does development aid really help the receiving countries
in terms of making them more competitive in the international economy? Perhaps the question should really be what kind of development assistance goes to play a decisive role in helping the developing economy.
