Blog Bug Organized a Blog Seminar
The main aim of the seminar is to discuss about the real functions of blog and to provide understanding that blog can be used as an alternative channel to disseminate information. It can also create a friendly and informal network or the so-called blogging community where people who share the same opinion support each other’s view or concern. However, bloggers must be responsible to what they wrote otherwise information written on blogs can create antagonistic atmosphere.
Well known Malaysian bloggers were invited to share their experiences in being in the blog-sphere.
Muzaffar (sultanmuzaffar.blogspot.com) who was awarded the 2004 top blogger shared with the audience how his blog has changed his life from a boring executive in a virtual university to a celebrity who is now working for a satellite TV and in charge of Malay programmes. To become a famous blogger, one must be real and honest to what they write.
Soon Li Tsin (polytikus.blogspot.com), who is presently working as a journalist at the Malaysiakini, discussed how her blog was used to update on Nathaniel Tan’s detention under the Seditious Act. Her blog was also being used for signature campaign. The public could read some update information on current cases more promptly than the news report from the mainstream media.
Jeremiah Foo (jeremiahfoo.com) said that his blog was hacked 27 times making his the most hacked blog in the country. Jeremiah told that he got more friends being a blogger.
Recently, dissemination of information through blog becomes very popular. This may be because the lack of trust in the mainstream media. Blog has been seen as an alternative media in the sense that information tends to be reveal more promptly and more transparent. In blog-sphere one can easily group up with people who are on the same opinion but also can discuss with people who are on different opinion to improve understanding on certain issues.
