Outgoing FNF Malaysia Project Director Rainer Heufers is leaving for Germany on 1 August 2007 to go through training at the FNF headquarters in Potsdam, Germany before assuming his new post in Jakarta, Indonesia later this year.
Based in Bangkok, Mr. Heufers has served as the Foundation’s Malaysia project director for seven years. He has been instrumental in planning and organising liberal training programs, political consultation and cooperation among liberal organisations in Malaysia and the region.
Regional Director Hubertus von Welck and staff members of the East and Southeast Asian Office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation attended a farewell lunch party, held in honour of Mr. Heufers at the Secret Garden restaurant in central Bangkok on 1 August.
Mr. von Welck made a farewell speech in which he likened Mr. Heufers to a whisky which gets better and becomes more valuable as years go by. He also presented a bottle of rare Scotch whisky as a personal farewell gift to Mr. Heufers and wished him and his wife Joyce a pleasant trip to Germany.
Dr. Busarin Dusadeeisariyawong, Malaysia project manager, gave him a Thai amulet as a gift. She also worked with other Malaysia team members to produce one CD and one DVD each containing many photos of Mr. Heufers and his team members at different places during the seven years that he worked for the Bangkok regional office.
Mr. Heufers was one of the four founding members of the Bangkok regional office when it relocated from Singapore in 2001. He will assume his new post at the Foundation’s Jakarta office as the FNF resident representative responsible for all Indonesia programs in October 2007.
