White Coffee Talk: Political Instability in Thailand: heading towards a stronger democracy
Posted 20 July 2006
I was recently invited by Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (PGRM) to give a talk on the Political Development in Thailand. This small group discussion programme was branded as the “Gerakan White Coffee Talk” scheduled for every Wednesday from 19.30pm onwards in Gerakan Headquarter. The topic of talk ranges from domestic politics to regional and international politics. The main objective is to interchange knowledge, ideas, views and opinion on national issues, political analysis, socio-economy, strategic thinking and leadership development. The concept initiated by the Political Training Bureau in February 2006 aims to create a platform for a discussion, training, knowledge exchange in a relaxing and comfortable environment with a platform to exchange view, knowledge without fear of going through traditional formal talks trauma. All Malaysians are invited to join.
My talk on Political Instability in Thailand was moderated by Y.B. Chia Kwang Chye, Secretary General of PGRM. There was a small group of around 20 participants but the discussion was lively and fruitful. The discussion showed that most Malaysians are interested and have followed the political development in Thailand, since whatever happens in Thailand will have an impact in Malaysia and vice versa. As such, at the end of the talk, we are all hopeful that Thailand will soon have a stable government and is heading towards a stronger democracy.
