FNF in Malaysia

Malaysia gained independence from Britain in 1957. Since then, a coalition led by the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) has ruled the country. The government restricts freedom of expression and assembly. An “Internal Security Act” allows for detention without trial for up to two years.

FNF has been working in Malaysia for more then 20 years. We promote democracy and liberalism. FNF cooperates with political parties, civil society organisations, think tanks and a media organisation.

IAF 2012 Programme

The Foundation established the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) as a forum and venue for international political dialogue, first in Sintra (Portugal), in the early 1990s, and later on in Gummersbach (Germany), at the Theodor Heuss Academy, in 1995. Participants from all over the world find here an opportunity to share political experiences, address cultural issues and jointly seek liberal solutions to current problems.

Freedom Barometer Asia (FBA) 2010

The Freedom Barometer Asia is a project of the Regional Office for Southeast and East Asia of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Bangkok. It is an attempt to measure freedom in all its complexity in selected Asian countries. In contrast to most others indices, it is not limited to one aspect of freedom, be it political or economic. The Barometer combines the most significant elements of economic and civil/political freedom with a specific liberal perspective

MUSLIM YOUTH SURVEY 2011

Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and Goethe Institute, in cooperation with Merdeka Center for Opinion Research Malaysia and Lembaga Survei Indonesia, asked 2,500 young (15-25 yrs.) Muslims in Malaysia and in Indonesia what they think about their country, their society and their family. Following events in Jakarta and Berlin, the Malaysia-results have been made public in Kuala Lumpur.
