Violence against Women, proceedings of a public consultation
A compilation of the proceedings from a public consultation with civil service society, grass roots representatives, victims of violence as well as authorities such as police, health workers and lawyers.
The book presents an overview of what constitute violence against women, Malaysia’s commitment and progress in realizing CEDAW commitments, as well as a discussion on the laws and avenues available to victims of violence.
Cases of abuse and violence experienced by victims in Indian Malaysian communities are also presented to show the gravity of the situation. The cases show that very often women are unaware of their rights, or are too afraid to report incidents of violence for either fear of the perpetrator, or the stigma attached with being victims of rape or assaults.
