Sex charge against Anwar - a politically-motivated conspiracy |
|
Malaysian opposition leader and a former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim is facing fresh sexual misconduct charges. Mohd Saiful, Anwar's personal aide, had made a police report over the weekend alleging that the PKR de facto leader had sodomised him in a condo in Kuala Lumpur. This is the same charge that saw Anwar sacked from the government in 1997 for allegedly involved in sodomy and abuse of power. He was jailed six years until 2004 when the charge was overturned by the Federal Court. Anwar has always dismissed the original 1998 charges as politically motivated. He also denied the latest accusation and described it as a 'complete fabrication'. He took refuge at the Turkish Embassy becuase of fear for his personal safety.
